Can sensors be re-used without the DL codes?

December 10, 2018 by Will Robins Leave a Comment

In the spirit of keeping this succinct, I've replaced a GE system with a Ring system. I ran them side-by-side for awhile and am happy to make the move.

Since the door sensors were attached via adhesive, the paper with the DL codes were damaged.

I'd love to throw these up on Ebay, but don't want to end up refunding someone after they get stuck with non-register-able sensors.

This is the sensor model as per my order form from 2012…

Looking for a heavy duty door I can buy locally (Lowe’s, Home Depot, etc) and install myself. Back door is rather flimsy even though it has a deadbolt, I doubt it could resist being kicked in. Any suggestions on what I should be looking for?

December 4, 2018 by Will Robins Leave a Comment

What is generally the best method for a kick-proof door? I’ve converted my garage to a home studio and I’m a bit worried that one day someone will kick the door in and grab everything of value. The garage is seperate from the rest of the house and has two doors, one is behind a fence and is fairly heavy duty, it’s loud and has a deadbolt.

The other, most accessible and easily visible door is a flimsy wooden door. I’m looking to yank that out and put something more sturdy in, I know how to install a door but I don’t really know anything about home security or how to make a secure door that will resist being kicked in.

Any suggestions? My budget is a few hundred dollars max.

Building new house after it got burned down, want to buy security cameras for insurance purposes now. Please recommend security camera set up so I can tell my contractor which Camera setup I want to use

December 3, 2018 by Will Robins Leave a Comment

Hello everyone, sometime last year my house got burned down by someone and still not sure who did it.

My insurance is giving me a hard time while trying to collect my insurance and now I have gone through this nightmare.

I would like to have security cameras installed to prevent as much as a nightmare as possible in the future.

Can someone please help recommend a security camera system to install?

I was thinking of this particular model because it was on sale on newegg

Can anyone comment if this is a good camera setup and will get the job done without any problems? Also for $380 is this a good price? I am having money troubles due to insurance and contractor so trying not to over pay for anything.

Thanks and happy holidays

Benefits of a Monitored Security System for Your Home

September 19, 2018 by Will Robins Leave a Comment

What would you do if you are away on holidays and your home alarm gets activated? If you are like most people, your alarm may not be monitored, you'd be relying on the neighbours to ring, and then the panic of what to do next would surely come.

We spend our lifetime to building our lifestyle. When it comes to security however, we often tend to cut a few corners. Pick up some cameras on ebay, maybe even a DIY Alarm, why compromise the integrity of business like mine, that specialises in protecting assets through out Australia.

It’s not just monetary goods that needs to be kept safe. Securing our loved ones is paramount to all walks of life.

Having the right security system installed is the first step in protecting the most important things to you. Knowing that most alarm activation's that occur go unnoticed, a duely licensed industry endorsed monitoring platform is the inevitably the next step for total asset protection.

So what benefits can a professionally monitored home alarm system provide.

Looking to put together a home security surveillance system. Have a question on cameras.

August 1, 2018 by Will Robins Leave a Comment

Hi, all!

After a string of thefts and break-ins, I've decided that I want to install a security surveillance system in my home.

After doing some research, both here and on the web in general, I decided that I would want an HDCVI system recording to a DVR. I also decided that Dahua Starlight cameras were also a necessity as the break ins happened overnight.

Now, I know a bit about photography, so I do understand that the higher the MP, the better (generally) the image. So, armed with that knowledge, I wanted to see if there was a better option than the 2MP Dahua Starlights.

I found these cameras on the B&H website. Now, they don't say Starlight, but if you check the Dahua wiki they are listed as Starlight cameras.

The problem I'm having here is that B&H doesn't even have an ETA on when these things will be available, and I can't find them anywhere else online. Well… I say anywhere. Newegg claims to have them, but they want $344 for them, where B&H asks $210 (once you log in).

It doesn't stop there, however. After some digging I found cameras that match the specs of the A82AF5V on AliExpress. They are the HAC-HFW2802T-Z-A and the HAC-HFW2802T-Z-A-DP. Now, in my research I did find a warning about region-locked cameras being loaded with hacked firmware so they could run here, and then being sold for cheaper, (Both the Z-A and the Z-A-DP are quite a bit cheaper than the A82AF5V) So I'm understandably wary of cameras that will likely come straight from China.

However! After some more digging, I found a company selling the Z-A and the Z-A-DP on Amazon. A company called "icaremoresecurity" has them listed for $146.00 and $158.00 respectively.

I'm obviously going to be worried about a scam in this instance but, at least with Amazon I'm fairly certain I can walk away with no problems if it turns out to be a bad deal.

So, my very long-winded story leads to these questions:

1) Does anyone have any experience with the 8MP Starlights?

2) Are they worth the hassle I seem to be having to get them?

3) Would you trust an off-branded camera in either the instance of AliExpress or Amazon?

4) If all of these questions are some form of "no", which cameras should I be looking at where I want clear facial focus to help with IDing people both in normal and low/no light scenarios? Will the 2MP Starlights be enough? Is there a better camera I can go for to give me some peace of mind?

Thank you all for your time, and have a great day!
